Lukashenka promises support to Catholic Church

Belarusian President Alyaksandr Lukashenka told Archbishop Tadevush Kandrusevich on Tuesday that he was content with the relationship between the state and the Roman Catholic Church and promised his support, Interfax reported.

"What you have been doing in Belarus is aimed at maintaining peace here," he was quoted as saying at a meeting with the country's Catholic leader. "We highly regard the Catholic Church's mission and your personal mission."

Archbishop Kandrusevich reportedly stressed the need for a dialogue between the Catholic and Orthodox Churches.
