Lukashenka faces ultimatum from protestant pastors

The pastors from over 40 churches that are united in the Association of Evangelist Communities in Belarus have appealed to Alexander Lukashenka.
In their letter, they expressed alarm over the stepped up pressure on Protestant churches in in this country. They focused on the standoff between the Minsk-based church New Life and the local authorities. New Life's lawyer Syarhey Lukanin told the European Radio for Belarus as follows:

“The letter says that if the authorities continue to crack down on our association's bishop Vyachaslau Hancharenka, all the churches within the association reserve the right to take part in civic disobedience actions across Belarus”.

Syarhey Lukanin noted that Evangelist Christians are ready to resort to open actions, including political protests.
