Lukashenka confirms to Germans he wants no Russian military base

Лукашэнка пацвердзіў уладам Нямеччыны, што не хоча расійскай ваеннай базы

Belarusian leader Aliaksandr Lukashenka has confirmed to the German authorities that he was not going to deploy Russian airbase on the territory of Belarus. This was stated by representative of the German authorities Steffen Seibert during a press conference in Berlin.

According to Seibert, the head of Belarus "does not consider such a proposal necessary" and does not see the need to place additional Russian military bases on the territory of Belarus. Lukashenka also said that if the West wants to fight with Russia, Belarus will support the Russians in the conflict.

German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said on Monday in Luxembourg that sanctions against Belarus could be lifted in connection with the elections that took place in the country on Sunday. Steinmeier also held telephone talks with his Belarusian counterpart, ria.ru reports.
