Lawyers to appeal Andrei Bandarenka's imprisonment sentence
Lawyer Zmitser Layeuski has filed on behalf of entrepreneur Andrei Bandarenka an appeal to the chairman of the Minsk City Court against the verdict of Minsk's Pershamaiski District Court, reports Radio Svaboda. Andrei Bandarenka, an activist with the United Civil Party, in February 2010 was sentenced to 6 years in prison for swindling and theft. The court also ordered that his property and assets be confiscated. In May 2010, Bandarchuk was forwarded to a colony in Babruisk. On May 15 he went on a hunger strike in protest to the verdict.
Bandarenka insists he is not guilty and links his prosecution with political motives. He says he could be revenged for his participation in the parliamentary elections and his efforts to revise the results of the polls. Andrei Bandarenka is demanding that his conviction be abolished and he be freed.
