Kiev: Belarusian and Russian snipers were shooting in Maidan

Former commandant of Maidan and current vice speaker of the Verkhova Rada Andriy Parubiy has made a statement. Snipers were shooting both at demonstrators on barricades and at Berkut members on February 20, 2014, he said. They were positioned on the roofs of the President’s Administration, National Bank and hotel Ukraine.

Russian ‘riot policemen’ were shooting, he believes. However, he also mentioned Belarusian snipers.

"I was warned about them [riot policemen – Euroradio] a few times during Maidan,” Andriy Parubiy said. “A man approached me and said that there were three groups of Russian snipers and a group of snipers from Belarus. Their goal was to destabilize the situation as much as possible, create critical situations near diplomatic representative offices and instigate the confrontation.”

One the groups had to kill him, the politician said. However, one of its members came to warn him.

A similar scenario aimed at confrontation is being used in Donets Basin now, Parubiy thinks.

Belarusian Mihas Zhyzneuski was one of the first victims among Maidan defenders.
