Human rights defenders urge UN Security Council to consider Belarusian issue

“We are urging UN Security Council member states, especially Russia, to reconsider the issues of human rights violation in Belarus”, - is said in the appeal of the steering committee creating the Civil Commission on vindication of victims of Stalin’s repressions in Belarus.”
The appeal was distributed on December 10, on the International Day of Human Rights Protection. Let us remind you that the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was proclaimed and adopted by the UN General Assembly on this day in 1948.

The appeal stresses that the Belarusian authorities are violating the principles of the international law and the country’s obligations in the framework of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights thus ignoring the criticism of the international community.

The steering committee reminds that the Third UN committee adopted the resolution containing an appeal to the Belarusian authorities and urging them “to release all political prisoners immediately” and to stop “oppression and persecution” of  the government’s opponents on November 21, 2007.
