Highest safety for Belarus nuclear plant

Belarus will pick the safest reactor for the nuclear power plant it is going to build within the next several years, Mihail Miasnikovich, the chairman of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus said in a statement. The government will now study all the information about the possible bidders for the project, he said.

Russia, France and several other countries have offered their services to Belarus. Miasnikovich would not rule out that different contractors could be hired for different phases of the project.

The National Academy of Sciences and the Ministry of Energy of Belarus have carried out a serious work together with the international nuclear power watchdog to develop the necessary legal and procedural documents in order to implement the first nuclear power-related project in this country.

Belarus is to begin preparations next year for the practical implementation of the project, reports BELTA.
