Heart of Chechnya Mosque recognized as symbol of Russia
The steering committee of the Russia 10 contest announces that the Grozny mosque has won the contest.
It has been recognized as Russia’s best attraction together with Kolomna Kremlin, BBC reports.
Kolomna Kremlin was the leader after the second round of the contest. However, the Chechen authorities decided to withdraw the mosque from the contest due to a technical error during the voting. The head of the republic, Ramzan Kadyrov, even claimed that cell phone operators’ swindling prevented the mosque from winning in the second round.
The organizers admitted that the situation in the SMS-voting was a force majeure. Up to 5 million 200 thousand votes were lost because of a technical failure.
The contest Russia-10 is aimed at choosing ten new visual signs of Russia.
