Head of Mahileu Region Barys Batura becomes head of Council of Republic

The head of Mahileu Region Executive Committee Barys Batura has become head of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly. The head of the Council of the Republic of the 3rd convocation Henadz Navitski has nominated Batura for the position at the first meeting of the council today.
Batura had no rivals so he was elected and accepted the new position. Let us remind you that it was Alyaksandr Lukashenka who included the head of Mahileu Region in the Council of the Republic.



ERB’s note: Barys Batura was born in 1947 in Vaukavysk. He graduated from Belarusian polytechnic institute. He worked at the local communal enterprises complex in the 1970s and made his way in life from a workshop master to the director. He occupied important positions connected with communal services in Hrodna Region Executive Committee in the 1980s. He was the deputy Minister in 1987-1990, and the Minister of Housing and Communal Services in 1990-1999. He has been the head of Mahileu Region Executive Committee since 2000. He was a member of the Council of the Republic of the 2nd and 3rd convocation.
