Head of Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs: EU should stop discriminating Belarusians
The European Commission should take a decision to lower the price of Schengen visas for Belarusians soon. The statement has been made by the Lithuanian Foreign Minister Vygaudas Ušackas at a meeting with students of European Humanitarian University in Vilnius on November 24. BelaPAN refers to the diplomat and informs that Belarusians are still discriminated which does not do any good for the European Union. Ušackas confirmed that the price should be lowered to match the one paid by Russian and Ukrainian citizens – 35 euro instead of the current 60.
The head of the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also thinks that Belarus will join the EU sooner or later. “I personally would like it to happen earlier”, - said the Minister answering a first-year student’s question “Can Belarus headed by Alyaksandr Lukashenka join the EU?”
Ušackas claimed that he believed in cooperation and exchange of opinions more than in isolation: “I like to look people in the face, in Lukashenka’s face”.
According to the diplomat, the EU does not think about countries as surnames of their leaders, it takes their achievements in democracy and market economy into account, that is why “it does not matter who the Belarusian leader is”.
