Half of Belarusians back union with Russia

Almost a half of Russian citizens (48 percent) look at Belarus as a friendly nation, according to a poll carried out by the Eurasian Monitor in 13 countries of the former Soviet Union. To the question from the pollsters with what countries it would be better to unite, over a half of respondents in Belarus (56 percent) pointed at a union with Russia and one in four (25 percent) mentioned membership in the European Union. 47 percent Ukrainians would like to unite with Russia; 29 percent -- with Belarus and 21 percent with the European Union. The Baltic states appear to be regarded as least friendly by the Russsians (4 percent), according to the report.
