Government to continue funding ice hockey clubs

The Belarus president has again extended his resolution to provide financial support from the national budget to the country's hockey clubs.  The resolution came out in July 2003, but it was repeatedly extended. Only the clubs from the Belarus Supreme League are eligible for this assistance, reports Belapan.

The government spent Br60 billion for the development of hockey in 2006. According to experts, the budgets of the Belarusian hockey clubs amount to $1-4 million.

Their financial siatuation is not always stable. While some have a dozen of enterprises supporting them, the other often have only one sponsor.

The appendix to the Lukashenka's resolution also lists the enterprises and organizations that "offer permanent assistance to hockey clubs".
