"Gazprom" threatens to stop gas supplies to Ukraine

An official representative of “Gazprom” Syarhei Kupryyanau has claimed that the Russian monopolist will not supply gas to Ukraine without a contract. According to him, negotiations with Kiev have not brought any results yet but “Gazprom” hopes to reach an agreement by the New Year’s Day, informs “RIA Novosti” agency.

The reason for the new conflict was indebtedness for supplies. The Russian President Dmitrii Medvedev ordered to recover 2.4 billion dollars from Ukraine on November 20.

The Ukrainian Prime Minister Yuliya Timoshenko replied that Ukraine did not owe anything to “Gazprom”. According to her, it was a go-between company RosUkrEnergo that was in debt.
