Freedom Day manifestation planned in Minsk Independence Square

Deputy head of the movement For Freedom Yuras Hubarevich told Euroradio:

"The main topic will be independence. This year’s action will be affected by the events in Ukraine and Russia’s aggression to our neighbouring state. Belarusians may feel the aftermath of this aggression too. The independence of the Republic of Belarus is in danger.”

The action participants are going to express solidarity with the Ukrainian people. They will gather near the Academy of Sciences at 6 p.m. on March 25. Then they will head for Independence Square and organize a meeting there at 7.30 p.m. If Minsk City Executive Committee does not allow the itinerary (as it usually happens), the organizers will consider other variants, Yuras Hubarevich said.

The organisers will send an application for the action to Minsk City Executive Committee on March 7.

This year’s action is special – it will be held two days after the local elections, Hubarevich said.

Representatives of the BPF Party, the movement For Freedom, the United Civil Party, Belarusian Christian Democracy, Belarusian Social-Democratic Party (Hramada) and the solidarity movement Razam will join the steering committee of the action this year.
