First Hero of Belarus museum unveiled in Baranavichy

A new museum of the first Hero of Belarus -- Lt Col Uladzimr Karvat -- was unveiled at the 61st fighter air base in Baranavichy to mark 13 years since his heroic deed. New documents and pictures of the military pilot are showcased now.  In May 1996, a Su-27P military jet caught fire during a training flight in the Baranavichy district. Despite having been ordered to eject, Uladzimir Karvat turned the jet away from the city and died, saving many lifes.

He bacame the first Hero of Belarus.
