Ferrero-Waldner to discuss recent Russian-Belarusian conflict with Lukashenka

Benita Ferrero-Waldner will discuss the recent conflict with Russia during a meeting with Alyaksandr Lukashenka. According to the Commissioner, she would like to hear the Belarusian opinion about the issue.
Ferrero-Waldner: “Naturally, we are watching the events. And naturally, I would like to know the Belarusian authorities’ point of view… We have heard about the customs union of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan. At the same time we are helping Belarus join the WTO. All the issues including the gas pipeline are on the agenda”.

The European official stressed that it was a bilateral conflict. That is why the European Union will not side with anyone. The main thing that is providing energy and food safety:

Ferrero-Waldner: “We will never side with anyone, it is a bilateral conflict. We would like to see fair conditions for everyone, namely energy and food safety for all”.

Ms. Benita Ferrero-Waldner confirmed that she had arrived in order to offer Belarus a 10 million euro credit for improvement of safety and quality of foodstuffs:

“I have also brought an offer of a 10 million euro credit to provide for safety and quality of foodstuffs. It will be done for Belarusians”.
