European Endowment for Democracy opens in Brussles

The European Endowment for Democracy was opened in Brussels on May 27, charter97.org. Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski, his Lithuanian counterpart Linas Linkevičius, Chairman of the European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs Elmar Brok, coordinator of the EPP Group  in the Committee on Development Filip Kaczmarek, ex-Foreign Minister of Slovakia, expert of the German Marshall Fund Pavel Demesh, MEP Marek Migalski,  President of the Polish Fund for International Solidarity Krzysztof Stanowski ,  representatives of the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, many embassies, experts, analysts and civil activists attended the ceremony.

Polish deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Jerzy Pomianowski has been elected CEO of the European Endowment for Democracy.

Journalists from Belarus, Ukraine, Tunis, Armenia and Azerbaijan has the status of special guests.

The idea of creation of the Endowment for Democracy for EU neighbouring states appeared after the dispersal of the mass protest action on December 19, 2010 and “the Arab spring”.
