European Commission to present new economic strategy to European Union

The President of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso presented a new economic concept for EU member states on March 2. The idea of creation of the European economic government will be discussed because of the crisis in Greece. The new structure will have to strengthen the economy of the European community in connection with the US and Chinese competition.

The 20-year development plan “Europe-2020” is supposed to increase the employment level, invest 3% of the GDP in scientific research and education, fight poverty and decrease the emission of greenhouse gas by 20%. The states are supposed to accept this programme at a summit in Brussels at the end of March and to prepare national plans of its execution by June, notes “Deutsche Welle”.

According to Brussels sources, the creation of the EU economic government is being performed in a hurry because not all countries are successful at the moment – Greece is on the edge of bankruptcy and the state expects to get assistance from fellow EU member states.
