EU understands Belarus's reserved position over Abkhazia, South Ossetia

Belarus's reserved position over the recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia as independent states is a factor of the development of relations betwee Minsk and Brussels, German Ambassador to Belarus Gebhardt Weiss said in a statement. In this manner, the ambassador answered the question about the position of Belarus over the conflict between Georgia and Russia and about the choice of the Belarusian authorities between Russia and Europe on the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. Ambassador Weiss reminded that Germany, just like the official Brussels, believed Russia's behavior in the region was not wrong.

Belarus president Alexander Lukashenka said earlier that the question of recognizing the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia could be considered by the newly elected parliament.
