EU commisioner condemns Russia's "egoism"

Olli Rehn, EU Commissioner for Enlargement has condemned what he described as Moscow's "unilateral egoism" commenting on Russia's threat to veto a resolution on Kosovo at the UN Security Council.   "There is no room for a unilateral egoism which threatens to veto at the UN Security Council. Kosovo woll not become the 51st US state, while Serbia will not join the Russian Federation. The future of Kosovo and Serbia lies in the European Union," Rehn said during a meeting with students at the Politech University in Paris.

The European Union is prearing to take over from the UN protectorate mission in Kosovo, established since the military intervention by NATO in 1999. The NATO forces then stopped the Serbian ethnic cleansing against Albanians who wanted independence for Kosovo.

The sides have time until December 10 to resolve the issue. The three-party negotiators (EU, US and Russia) are expected to report to the UN Secretary General about the results of the negotiations.

US and EU believe that a limited independence for Kosovo is the only solution to this problem.
