Environment ministry: Russian oil company might be penalized again

The Russian company Zapad-Transnefteprodukt has totally compensated over Br14 billion for two accidents on the oil pipeline it operates on the territory of Belarus. However, the company seems to be facing new charges. The Belarus's Ministry for Natural Resources and Environment Protection says it has continued monitoring the contaminated areas in the northern Belarus.

Experts say that a repeated contamination could take place in spring. The petrochemicals that remained in the soil not only affect the plants but could also get again into rivers together with spring flows, reports ONT television channel.

The accidents on the oil pipelines Unecha-Ventspils and Unecha-Polatsk took place last year amd contaminated the local rivers Ula and Zakhodnya Dzvina.
