Elections: Boycotters allowed not to refund campaign money

The registered candidates who will withdraw from the parliamentary elections one day ahead of the vote will be required to refund the leaflet money to the state. This amounts to Br1,750,000 ($800). However, candidates still have a possibility of not paying back the money.  "A political reason like boycott cannot be an exuse. But if a candidate gets sick or leaves the territory of this country abruptly, this can be an exuse. Every case will be reviewed individually", said Mikalai Lazavik, the secretary of the Central Elections Commission.

An opposition candidate who will decide to boycott the upcoming elections and does not want to take money from the state for printing leaflets, is allowed to take use of making addresses on TV and radio free of charge.

Mikalai Lazavik: "If someone wants to show off and then withdraw, he or she will not have to pay for it if they don't take money for printing campaign leaflets".
