Election commission chairperson officially warned

The chairperson of an election commission in the village of Haviady, Shklou district was officially warned for leaving the lists of voters unattended during a break for lunch on September 25. 

The case became known thanks to… journalists from the television channel Belsat. The accidentally happened to be at the polling station but saw no officials and the unattended lists of voters. Scandal!


At a special meeting, observer Piatro Migurski presented the photographs of an unsealed ballot box. Luidmila Hlyakava, the chairperson of the constituency election commission, said the when she learned about this case, she immediately arrived at that polling stations and found out that the ballot box, photographed by journalists, was not meant for early voting.


The actual ballot box for early voting was shifted to another room next to the polling station. She also admitted that the lists of voters were left unattended at the polling station.


She said she was very angry. “The chairperson of that election commission will be warned”.


According to Piotr Migurski, a member of the commission, the responsible woman was officially warned by the higher election commission.


UDF candidate Ryhor Kastusyou also believes that this is a serious violation of the electoral laws and is going to file a complaint with the prosecutor’s office. “Under the Belarusian electoral laws, a ballot box should not leave the polling stations during the lunch break. The election commission committed a very serious violation of the law”, he said.
