Donations welcome to support arrested priest's family

According to the coordinator of  Za Volyu civil initiative Hanna Shaputska, money is needed in order to pay for lawyer's fees and for parcels to prison, reports BelaPAN.

The Executive Secretary of the committee to organize the Belarusian Christian Democracy party Dzyanis Sadouski says they have collected about 4800 signatures in support of the priest.

The news about the detention of a Catholic priest broke when Alyaksandr Lukashenka announced it in his statement in July. He said that a Belarusian secret service officer had been detained on suspicion of working for a foreign intelligence. According to Lukashenka, all contacts with the foreign secret services were maintained via Roman Cathholic Church representatives.

On July 29, a spokesman for Roman Catholic Church in Belarus confirmed detentions of Priest Uladzimir Lazar.
