Democrats in Brest mark Labor Day in city park

Pro-democracy activists in Brest today marked Labor Day in the city's central park, reports Belapan.  The local city hall did not give permision to the opposition organizers to stage demonstrations on May 1. However, according to the official letter, any other public group or a union was also banned from demonstrating.

Therefore, pro-democracy activists decided to join the official celebrations of Labor Day in the city's central park.

On their way to the park, activists from the Belarusian Party of Communists, Belarusian Social Democratic Parties (Hramada) and the trade union of radio-electronic industry (a total of some 60 people) marched in a column to Freedom Square where they laid flowers to WWII soldiers. Communists also laid flowers to Lenin's monument. The activists were carrying flags of their parties, Brest and the European Union.
