Chechen refugees on spontaneous protest in Brest - in pictures
Chechen refugees have spontaneously camped for two days in a row in Brest. Euroradio reported earlier that on August 29 they organized a rally neat the Brest border station at the Belarus-Poland border, protesting against the Polish border guards who do not allow them to enter the European Union. The Chechens say they aim to draw attention to their problem.
Chechen refugees usually take a shuttle cross-border train between Brest and Terespol in Poland, trying to get into Poland without a visa and seeking refuge there. However, the Polish border authorities turn them back to Belarus, with some having made over twenty attempts in vain. On Monday, the protesters decided to write a collective letter to representatives of the Chechen Diaspora in Poland. They hope to get their help in solving the problem with the Polish authorities.
Several dozens people spent the night sleeping near the border station. The Belarus police authorities did not interfere.
“Нават калі ў цябе мала грошай, ты за апошняя здымаеш жыллё дзеля сваіх дзяцей. А ў каго скончыліся гэтыя грошы, ішлі спаць на вакзал. Там таксама нельга нармальна легчы, пакласці дзіця… Мы разумеем, што тут, у Беларусі, ёсць свае законы, якія мы не хочам парушаць. Мы дзякуем за тое, што нас тут прынялі, але ўсё роўна нам ужо сорамна ночыць на вакзале”, — кажа Еўрарадыё адзін з уцекачоў.
За “лагерам” усе два дні назіраюць супрацоўнікі памежнай службы і праваахоўных органаў. Руху аўтамабіляў, якія едуць праз памежны пункт, уцекачы не перашкаджаюць. Нейкага канкрэтнага плану дзеянняў чачэнцы не маюць. Колькі будзе працягвацца іх акцыя, яны самі не ведаюць.
Паводле інфармацыі брэсцкага праваабаронцы Рамана Кісляка, нікога з чачэнцаў праваахоўнікі пакуль не затрымалі.
