CEC not to allow democrats in district election commissions

The Belarusian Central Election Commission has ignored the suggestion of leaders of opposition parties. The head of the Central Election Commission Lidziya Yarmoshyna claimed that she was not going to add members to election commissions on August 29. Let us remind you that the suggestion to add more members to election commissions can be found in the appeal of the presidium of the United Democratic Forces (the UDF) addressed to the head of the President’s Administration Uladzimir Makei.

The suggestion was made in connection with the small number of representatives of the UDF included in district election commissions: there are fewer than 50 democratic representatives out of 1300. According to Yarmoshyna, district election commissions “have already been created according to the available financing”. “The financing was meant for 14 people in each commission in Minsk and 12 people in other cities and districts. There is no money for more”, - said the head of the Central Election Commission. Yarmoshyna stressed that adding new members to district election commissions was not mentioned in the Election Code.
