Caren Stewart is not US Ambassador to Belarus anymore

The US Ambassador to Belarus Caren Stewart has resigned from this position. She was appointed deputy assistant of the US Secretary of State in the issues of democracy, human rights and labour the other day. The US charge d’affaires pro tempore to Belarus Jonathan Moor has informed about it at a press conference in Minsk today. According to Mr. Moor, he will remain a US charge d’affaires pro tempore “for an uncertain term”.

There are only 5 diplomats working in the US Embassy to Belarus and it has not resumed giving out visas to Belarusian citizens yet (some exceptions can be made). However, Belarusian citizens should not have problems getting visas in American Embassies to neighbouring states, stressed Moor.

The US charge d’affaires pro tempore to Belarus says that the Embassy will continue trying to strive for the release of all political prisoners, will observe the parliamentary elections and watch the fate of American citizens in Belarus (let us remind you that a US citizen Emmanuel Zeltzer is standing trial in Minsk).
