Border guard chief: Belarus-Ukraine border is a problem

The border with Ukraine is the most problematic, Belarus Border Control Committe Chairman Igar Rachkouski said in a statement.  He said that the Belarusian border guards would often have to fire weapons at the border with Ukraine in order to detain smugglers and other border violators, reports Interfax.

Rachkouski noted that Belarus's border with EU is protected much better than Ukraine's border with EU. This year, Belarusian border guards arrested 170 people who attempted to cross the border illegally in order to get to the European Union.

In Ukraine, 5000 people were arrested when trying to cross into EU.
