Belarusian students visit Ales Harun's grave in Krakow

Belarusian students in Poland, members of the Belarusian National Memory initiative, visited the grave of Belarusian poet Ales Harun in Krakow on July 27.

One of the students, Anatol, says, "Ales Harun died on 28 July 1920. We are visiting his grave on July 27 because it is Independence Day, and Ales Harun fought for Belarus, for its national flag and language. He died at 33. We have come to tidy up his grave. We brought flowers, lit candles and read his poems. We showed that he is remembered and that his cause continues and Belarus will be free."

Ales Harun (Alyaksandr Prushynski), a poet, a member of the Socialist Revolutionary Party, edited the Belaruski Shlyakh newspaper. He fell sick and was taken to Krakow in 1920.
