Belarusian Internet mass media will not have to register for the moment

The obligatory registration of Internet mass media indicated by the new Belarusian law on mass media will be put off for some time. The Ministry of Information will offer voluntary registration instead of it.
As far as “Daily” has found out in the Ministry of Information, the registration of Internet mass media can start only after the corresponding act appears. Nothing will be done until the document is ready.

The deputy chairperson of the Belarusian Association of Journalists Andrei Bastunets says that the workgroup that had to elaborate a decree of the Council of Ministers on registration and regulation of Internet mass media was created and got down to work. However, the work was suspended in the autumn of 2008 because the EU demanded to adjust the Belarusian legislation in accordance with democratic standards.

It does not mean that the document will not appear later – for example, it may happen in May, when the “trial” period that Europe assigned to Belarus is over, thinks Bastunets.
