Belarusian citizen kidnapped in Nigeria

Nigerian militants have kidnapped a Belarusian woman. The incident happened in the Nigerian port Port-Harkort on May 5. The Belarusian worked for Whassan Eurest Nigeria Limited and even occupied an executive position there. Her husband is Nigerian. His name is Ekpa-Uma.
According to the Nigerian police, militants caught the woman near her house which is close to the Presidential Hotel.

It was said that the woman was a Russian citizen but the information was not confirmed. The advisor of the Belarusian Embassy to Nigeria Victar Hancharou informed that the kidnapped woman was Belarusian. “This is preliminary information. She is Belarusian. Her name is Iryna,” - quotes Gazeta.Ru.

It has been reported that the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affaires asked the Russian Embassy to deal with this case and to help release the Belarusian woman.

Let us remind you that the number of foreigners kidnapped in Nigeria reached 28 during the past week. Eight of them were released. Hostages are normally released safe and sound. But there have been several cases when they died during release operations.
