Belarus wants to build a sea port at Baltic Sea

Belarus and Russia are discussing the possibilities of building a Belarus-owned sea port in the Leningrad region at the Baltic Sea, Pavel Borodin, the State Secretary of the Belarus-Russian Union State said in a statement. According to Borodin, the port's capacity could reach 30-35 million tons of cargo.

"10-15 million are meant for dry cargo, while the remaning would be designed for crude oil and petrochemical products", the official said. An ad hoc exper group is currently doing a feasibility study for the project. It is expected to propose a business proposal in fall. The preliminary costs of what Borodin described as "a unique project for Belarus to break through to the Baltic Sea" are not available yet, according to the Interfax news agency.
