Belarus toughens controls over hazardous cargo

Belarus has strengthened controls over the shipment of hazardous cargo in the country. Experts are now busy studying the possibilities to re-route trains that carry the toxic yellow phosphorous. It is planned that those trains will be diverted from large cities, reports ONT television channel.

Security is stepped up following the recent accident in Ukraine where several cars with the yellow phosphorous derailed, damaging at least 150 people and causing over 1000 to evacuate.

The authorities in Ukraine keep monitoring the movement of the phosphorous cloud which yesterday was heading to the east of Ukraine.
