Belarus to sign cooperation accord with EU border control agencies

The Belarusian government and the European Union’s border security agency, Frontex, will sign a memorandum of cooperation before the end of this year, Istvan Samu, a member of the agency’s management board, told reporters in Minsk on September 29.

A date for the signing of the memorandum has yet to be determined, he said.

The Frontex management board made the decision to sign the memorandum with Belarus last week.
The draft document provides for joint border security operations, workshops, conferences and the training of Belarusian border control staff abroad, according to Ihar Rachkowski, chairman of the Belarusian State Border Committee.

Frontex has already signed similar memorandums with Moldova, Russia and Ukraine, BelaPAN reported.
