Belarus to ship cement to Russia through a state-run company

Belarus is set to carry out direct supplies of cement to the Russian northern capital of St Petersburg at fixed prices, reports Delovoy Peterburg. A new state-run company will be launched there in order to coordinate the distribution of cement among construction companies.

The government of Belarus is planned to have a controlling package of shares in the new company, St Petersburg Vice Mayor Alexander Vakhmistrov said during a closed-door meeting with construction managers.

According to preliminary estimates, Belarus could ship up to 500-800 thousand tons annually. St Petersburg Mayor Valentina Matviyenko is expected on September 3 to write to Russian Railways CEO Vladimir Yakunin so that he ensures the transportation of the Belarusian cement.
