Belarus phases out rural clinics
Belarus is phasing out the clinics that do not meet modern requirements, Valyantsina Kachan, Belarus's deputy health minister and the chief sanitary doctor, told a news conference in Minsk on April 2. "Everyone has the right to a high-quality medical aid provided by the state. Our people deserve to be treated in accordance with the up-to-date level", Kachan noted.
Decisions to close down medical facilities are taken in cases when the conditions for treatment do not meet the requirements, she said. "We cannot treat people in the buildings with no sewage system, water supply or basic saniatry conditions", Valyantsina Kachan noted.
The deputy health minister believes it will be better to have less clinics with a higher quality of treatement. For example, the infection department at the Sharkaushchyna district hospital in the Vitsebsk region was closed, because "it was a source of additional risks for the dissemination of infectious diseases". The infection department has been shifted to the town of Hlybokaye, 50 km off Sharkaushchyna, reports Belapan.
