Belarus needs money for Kaldun

Our editorial staff has been interested in the price of participation in “Eurovision” for a long time. In spite of the fact that the director of the Belarusian elimination round “Eurofest-2007” Alyaksandr Tsіhanovіch has a heavy schedule, we managed to crowd in. We asked him how much the contract with Philip Kirkorov cost and how much money would be allocated for “Eurovision-2007”:

“In fact, we haven’t talked about money. Philip is the author of the song and the state radio and television company participated only in the shooting of the video clip. Kirkorov recorded the phonogram, mastered it and made the arrangement for his own money.

While he is doing everything for his own money the state radio and television company is allocating money for promo tours, pays for the subscription, fares and residence of the delegation, parties, etc.

The budget is very big but we still do not have enough money. The Belarusian radio and television company, the Ministry of Culture and the Council of Ministers are trying to get it”.

A meeting of representatives of the broadcasting union took place in Helsinki (Finland) on March 12-13. They discussed issues connected with organization, conducting of the contest and the possible innovations.

Naturally, we got interested what innovations, besides the possibility to chose the time of performance in the semi-final for some countries, are to be introduced in “Eurovision”:

“The date of the next “Eurovision” have already been announced – it’s May 17-18, 2008. The organizers and the broadcasting union have also suggested conducting two semi-finals.

Four countries organizing “Eurovision” and the winner are already considered to be participants of the semi-final, while the other participants of the contest will have to earn this permission. There are many countries taking part in the contest and that’s why the idea of two semi-finals has arisen.  It may be done in order to shorten the on-air time and let people listen to all songs attentively and chose those they like best”.

Let me add that Zmitser Kaldun who is going to represent our country at the contest will continue his promo-tour in Poland and Romania. He will then leave for Moscow on April 23 to start getting ready for his final performance.
