Ashton: Meeting in Minsk – opportunity that should not be missed

Ukraine needs to establish friendly relations both with the EU and Russia, Catherine Ashton thinks. “This is your country, you make decisions and you chose your future. You have elected your President and the way that you will follow. You need friendly relations with European neighbours and Russia,” ITAR-TASS quotes the EU High Representative.

The Customs Union–EU–Ukraine meeting will be held in Minsk on August 26. Vladimir Putin, Petro Poroshenko, Alyaksandr Lukashenka, Nursultan Nazarbayev, Catherine Ashton, European Commissioner for Energy Günther Oettinger and European Commissioner for Trade Karel De Gucht will take part in it.

Petro Poroshenko will try to make peace in Minsk “as the whole world is tired of wars,” he said on August 21. According to Poroshenko, he ‘will urge to take away militants from Ukraine’.
