Andrei Byalyauski has been officially charged with illegal possession of ammunition (part 2, article 295 of the Criminal Code), the human rights website Viasna reports.  Having been interrogated in the Investigation Committee, Byalyauski commented on the charges for Viasna.

The man is facing up to seven years of imprisonment and his property may be confiscated.

Andrei Byalyauski is a person who was involved in the so-called White Legion case that was closed by the Investigation Committee due to the absence of elements of crime not long ago. A cartridge was found in Byalyauski’s flat during a search. It was a souvenir.

Byalyauski is asking to stop the prosecution and to admit that his deed was not posing any threat and was legally insignificant.

The cartridge was found during the investigation of the White Legion case. The actions of people involved in it were announced legally insignificant, rights defender Valyantsin Stefanovich notes. Thus, it would be logical to stop the prosecution of Byalyauski, he believes.
