Alyaksandr Lukashenka invites the Pope to visit Belarus

The Belarusian leader will bring a souvenir coin presented by Benedict XVI home from the Vatican. Alyaksandr Lukashenka has invited Pope Benedict XVI to visit Belarus during the today’s meeting in the Vatican.

"If you find time, we would meet on the Belarusian territory if there is God’s will for it”, - said the Belarusian leader.

The meeting of Lukashenka and the Pope took place in the Papal Library of the Apostolic Palace in the Vatican.  Alyaksandr Lukashenka and Benedict XVI exchanged presents after the meeting. The Pope presented a souvenir coin and the Belarusian leader – an icon.

BelTA informs that Lukashenka talked to the Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, after the meeting with the Pope.
