200 litres of chemical agents spilt into Neman as a result of accident

The consequences of the accident as a result of which the river Neman was polluted have been liquidated. A gap in the water supply point pipe of the “Belcard” enterprise led to leakage of almost 200 litres of chemical agents into the river. It was mainly fuel oil.
Neman fishermen were the first to have noticed the slicks. They called rescuers and ecologists who spent all night cleaning the Neman. The source of pollution has been located and liquidated. A special commission is investigating the reason for the accident.
