19:12 Frost might suspend Belarus schools

The freezing temperatures have failed to stop the flu epidemic declared by the healthcare authorities on February 22. But, doctors warned -- to the joy of the children -- that classes could be suspended at schools due to the cold. The schools will be shut down if the temperature drops below minus 25 decgrees Celsius at 7 a.m. The irony is that this frost is expected on Saturday, when pupils normally have a day-off anyway.

It is worth noting that the rest of the country is struggling with the heavy frosts, too. Traffic police hels tow the vehicles that cannot operate in cold temperatures. In Vicebsk region, the coldest region so far, the traffic police helped evacuate 35 vehicles. 9 cars were rescused in Minsk.

A Minsk resident had his feet and hand apmutated after exposue to the frost, according to Komsomolskaya pravda v Belarusi. Warmth is expected to arrive in Belarus only early next week.
