18:42 Erotic TV channel shut down in Babrujsk

The Babrujsk-based cable television company Vesta was forced to stop broadcasting the Russian channel TV-1000 after an angry pensioner complained to the Office of the President of Belarus. The pensioner ran angry over the screening of erotic content on the channel. According to the chief of the ideology department at the local town hall, Aliaksandr Markacou, the channel screened "open pornography" after 23:00.

The channel's night-time programming has been sent for reviewal to the National Commission for Violence and Pornography Prevention.

If the experts confirm that this is only erotica, not pornography, it will be allowed for screening after 23:00, according to the Belarus laws. The cable operator will then be able to resume brodcasting of erotic content. Meanwhile, the town authorities in Babrujsk are overwhelmed with calls from the residents who complain about the lack of erotic films, reports Komsomolskaya Pravda v Belarusi newspaper.
