1648 uprising graves found in Pinsk

A mass grave was found in the southern Belarusian city of Pinsk during reconstruction works at the central square. The found human remains are now being analyzed by specialists from the Institute of History at the National Academy of Sciencies, reports First Channel.
According to preliminary estimates, the grave could be a trace dating back to the 17th century uprising against the Polish rule. The then residents of Pinsk joined the Bogdan Khmelnitski-led uprising in 1648.

Historians estimate that nearly 14,000 people were executed for their part in the uprising. The town was almost totally ruined.
