14 people die in fires during Labor Day holidays

14 people died during three days of the Labor Day weekend, Emergencies Ministry spokesman Vital Navitski told Interfax. Smoking by drunken people was the main cause of the fires and deaths.

Additionally, 401 fires were registered in natural eco-systems from May 1 through May 3, with a total square of fires reaching 177 hectars. In 90 percent of cases, human factor was the cause of the fire.
