12:06 100 die of alcohol poisoning this year in Minsk

Over 100 people have died of alcohol poisoning this year in Minsk, the capital's police chief Anatol Kuliasou told reporters. Most of the deaths were caused by industrial spirit overdoses, while 5 people died of drininking a poison brew, he said. The police official also pointed to the increased number of people with alcohol addiction, officially registered with narcological clinics.

Over 1000 people have been referred to the city's narcological treatment center. Over 270 alcoholics have been forcefully attended to treatment centers.

Kuliasou stressed that "there is a trend in Minsk that women and teenagers started using alcohol more often". "Recently, one woman was against 100 male alcoholics. Currently, the ratio is 10/4", Kuliasou noted.

The annual alcohol consumtion in Belarus has reached 10.6 liters per capita. According to the World Health Organization, the degradation of the personality begins after hitting the critical level of 8 liters of alcohol consumed annually per capita, reports Interfax.
