Zmitser Zhaleznichenka on hunger strike in army, admitted to hospital

Zmitser Zhaleznichenka, a youth opposition member from Homel who on January 25 was drafted to the army, has been admitted to a hospital in Minsk. On the draft day, the youngster went on a hunger strike, protesting that he was drafted illegally.
He says on the draft day he still had an official student status. Moreover, Zhaleznichenka did not underego a repeated medical checkup.

He said he felt sick and a high blood pressure. However, the military unit where Zhaleznichenka was recruited to declined to reveal why the soldier was admitted to a hospital.

His mother told the European Radio for Belarus that as of last night Zmitser had still been on a hunger strike. But she could confirm that he was admitted to a hospital because of the hunger strike.

“He also told me that he didn't sleep for two nights. I told his commander about it and asked him to provide medical assistance to my son.”
