Youth activists stand trials in Minsk

Young opposition politicians Pavel Seviarynets and Aliaksej Shein detained by police on Monday are standing trials in Minsk today, Artur Finkevich, a fellow activist told the European Radio for Belarus. The trial is taking place at the Frunzenski District Court. The politicians were detained last evening near the Pushkinskaya metro station on suspicion of apartment theft.

However, the two are more likely to be found guilty of petty hooliganizm and sentenced to an administrative arrest for 20 days.

The sentence would prevent the politicians from taking part in the opposition-staged actions on July 27.

Seven more youth activists detained yesterday appeared in courts of the Sovietski and Central District Courts, according to Finkevich.
