Yanіs Aizsalnіeks: Representative Office of European Commission to open soon in Belarus

Alyaksandr Lukashenka has approved of the establishment of a representative office of the European Commission in our country on October 19. It was not clear whether Belarus was going to agree to it since 2006. The head of the TASIS office in Belarus Yanіs Aizsalnіeks informed ERB about things needed to be done:

“We have to perform a few more steps after the today’s decision. We have to sign an agreement allowed to organize a delegation. It should be ratified by the Belarusian Parliament.

After that we will officially be allowed to open it. We are hoping that these steps will be made as soon as possible”.

Technical consultations will take place soon and it will be announced who will sign the agreement and where it will happen.

Speaking about employees of the future representative office, Yanіs Aizsalnіeks noted that their number depended on the scale of cooperation of the European Commission and Belarus. He thinks that the scale may be broadened.

Specialists from the European Commission will arrive in Minsk; however, Belarusians will also be hired.
